About Us

Built on the Summer residence of the Manikya Dynasty, Tripura Castle is 9-acre property in proximity of the city with 35 rooms in wooden furbishing. 3 independent wooden cottages amidst the nature. 4 restaurants-bar known for its multi-cuisine and exquisite range of cocktails. The Brand is known for its historic relevance and traditional hospitality.

The Property

Established as a summer retreat for the Royal family of Tripura in the 1920’s by the then Maharaja of Tripura. The Hotel is nested amidst the Abode of Clouds surrounded by beautiful alpine hills with a view of the luscious pine trees

The History

Our story found its first chapters in the 1920’s, when Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya, the then Maharaja of Tripura smitten by the beauty of Shillong decided to build a summer retreat for his family in between the beautiful alpine hills.

THE HERITAGE WING

Heritage Maharaja Suite

The room is specialty of Tripura Castle. It is an amalgamation of history and literature. The large ornately carved mahogany beds used in each of these rooms are graced by India’s first Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore on his frequent trips to Tripura. The rooms are a perfect tangible example of living life ‘King Size’.

The spacious suites are 740 square feet with 48” LCD Televisions. A desk to rouse the writer in you. A warm brass fire chimneys with couches placed next to it. A wooden carved ancient cupboard.

Heritage Queen Room

History is incomplete without our Queens and so are Tripura Castle’s rooms. As a tribute to matrilineal society of Meghalaya, the Heritage Queen Rooms celebrates the historical journey of the Queens of our past.

The luxurious 390 square feets rooms are adorned with intricately carved wooden beds with 48” LCD Televisions. A couch placed infront of the rustic fire chimneys and a wooden carved ancient cupboard.

Heritage Supreme Room

Experience the wooden furnished rooms with beautiful spread of sun rays throughout the space by the large checkered window covering one side of the wall, which also presents a peaceful view of the green lawn and colorful rose gardens.

The 345 square feet Assam structured rooms are available with beautiful carved wooden beds, couches to relax after a tiring day of site seeing and a brass fire chimney to keeps the ambience of the room warm. The room comes with a 48” LCD Television set.

Heritage Deluxe Rooms

With Art Deco interiors and beautifully carved wooden furniture, Heritage Deluxe rooms adorned with ancient artifacts brings history at our guests’ doorstep. A legacy packed within a 370 square feet intricately furnished rooms with age-old designed beds, a couch, a 48” Television set and a two set cupboard.

THE VALLEY WING

View Valley Supreme Room

A perfect example of modernity blend with royalty. The spacious suites are divided into two parts- the bedroom and the lounging area. The doors and the arches of the room follow the ancient interiors architectural styles with an urbanized touch of furniture.

The Bedroom has a large king size bed, with a 48” LCD television display. The Lounge area has a four-seater dinning set for the guest to enjoy room serviced meals and a sofa set facing a 48” LCD television for their leisure activities. They have spacious set of two cupboards and a locker to safeguard the belongings of the guests.

View Valley Queen Rooms

A classic blend of wooden furnished rooms with a touch of modernity in the structure of the movables, the high-ceilinged Valley View Queen Rooms is a perfect interpretation of living life Queen Size. The rooms are evenly well-lit and it is accompanied with spacious balcony for a beautiful cityscape view of Shillong 24/7.

The 660 square feet rooms are adorned with wooden queen-sized beds and a divan placed infront of the beds. A Sofa set facing the 48” LCD television mounted on the wall, a set of two wooden cupboards and a locker.

View Valley Cottage Rooms 

A palatial addition to the property, the Valley View Supreme Rooms are separated into two parts – Bedroom and Lounging area. The bedroom is decorated with wooden bed, a desk and a chair and two couches along with a small tea table for the guests. The lounge area has a sofa set facing the 48” LCD television and a 4-seater dining table for our guests to enjoy their meal while binging their favourite shows. The rooms are 485 square feet with wooden flooring all around.

View Valley Deluxe Rooms

Experience a compact blend of heritage and urbanization in the beautiful 430 square feet Deluxe rooms of the wing. The rooms are embellished with wooden beds. Two couches and a 48” LCD television set. The rooms are beautifully lit by the light falling from the balcony on the floors. The rooms come along a set of cupboards and a locker.

The Forest Wing 

Forest View Maharaja Suite

Experience royalty amidst the greenery. Furnished with embellishments and ancient heirlooms, heritage is relived in the Forest View Maharaja Suites.  The large ornately carved mahogany beds used in each of these rooms are graced by India’s first Nobel Laureate, Rabindranath Tagore on his frequent trips to Tripura. The rooms are a perfect tangible example of living life ‘King Size’.

The spacious suites are 605 square feet with 48” LCD Televisions. A sofa set for the leisure of our guests and a two set cupboard and a locker.

Forest View Supreme Rooms

Experience a stay with the view of the morning dew hitting the tips of the pine trees every morning. The air from the pine forest fills the rooms with freshness. The Wooden furnished supreme rooms of this wing are 375 square feet with a comfortable bed facing the 48” LCD television set and a couch with a table to enjoy room serviced food. A set of two cupboards and a locker.

Forest View Deluxe Rooms

Experience the greenery of Shillong within the 360 square feet rooms. The Deluxe rooms of this wing is perfect balance of nature and heritage. The wooden floored rooms come with comfortable beds facing the 48” LCD television set. A couch for the leisure of the guests and a set of wooden cupboards and a locker.

Forest View Cottages

The warm wooden cottages are decorated with king-sized beds facing a 48” LCD television set and a two-set couch with a small tea table. A set of wooden cupboards and a locker are available for the comfort of our guests.

The Heritage Restaurant & Bar 

The Heritage Wing Restaurant is for its hotel guest where they can enjoy the delicious Indian and Chinese cuisine while watching the beautiful Shillong rain drops splatter in the courtyards. Royalty is served on a plate at this particular restaurant as the food is prepared by the culinary artists who have been serving the Royal family of Tripura from ages. The walls of the restaurant are beautiful adorned by the portraits of all the Kings from the Manikya Dynasty’s lineage introducing are guest to Tripura’s rich history.

The Heritage Lounge

The Heritage Wing Mezzanine bar is a private corner in the mezzanine level of the Heritage Wing which is open exclusively for the hotel guests and club members. A sip of the Tripura Castle’s Maharaja Special, a vodka-infused cocktail made using the Maharaja’s secret recipe with a game of pool seems like an ideal evening plan for our guests. The Bar has wide variety of flavoured cigars to Cuban classic and hookah to match the exquisite taste of our guests.

Adorned with the memorabilia from history, music and sports from the Maharaja’s personal collection, The Valley View Wing Resto Bar is an all-time classic. The lounge brings the rich cultures and spices of Meghalaya on a platter along with the Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisines. The Bar serves the best sizzlers in town. The guests are also welcomed to dine under the stars in the lawn which is a part of the lounge. The lounge has a pool table placed at the edge of the property, which serves the most exquisite city views.
